Inmarsat BGAN
BGAN (Broadband Global Area Network) Terminals are used for voice and broadband data communications globally from small and lightweight satellite terminals used with a portable PC or smart device to access internet applications.
BGAN service is accessible via a range of small, lightweight satellite terminals, which provide performance options to suit different operational needs.
BGAN terminals are able to provide voice and broadband data up to 492kbps, enabling you to simultaneously access the internet or send email, and talk on the phone at the same time.
The smaller terminals such as the Cobham Explorer 510 are well priced and designed to suit single users while also having wireless connectivity.
The larger terminals such as the Cobham Explorer 710 also have WLAN & are able to support router or switch devices. Much more suitable for small teams that need to establish a temporary office for an extended period. They are also suitable for users requiring higher bandwidth to enable applications such as live broadcasting.
Coverage & Applications
BGAN is available across the globe, with the exception of the polar regions. See map of coverage area.
Supporting IP services, as well as voice and data, BGAN integrates seamlessly with corporate networks and legacy applications while being secure, supporting all major VPN products and encryption standards.

Fleet Broadband & Swift Broadband
Inmarsat has created the FleetBroadband service that uses the 14 satellites for maritime communication.
Purpose built terminals and marine antennas are available to purchase with service plans here.
Installation of the equipment is simple and usually best carried out by the personnel most familiar with the vessel.
Due to doppler shift effects standard BGAN terminals cannot be used on moving aircraft. An alternative service using more intelligent terminals to talk to the 14 satellites, named SwiftBroadband, has been developed for aircraft use.
BGAN Service Options
Both Prepaid and Monthly service plans are available for BGAN terminals.
As data usage can vary depending on the intended usage, the BGAN Flexi plan is a preferred option for users.
